Microwave Cooking facts and health effects

 It's Christmas means holiday time, thought to practise some healthy food habits in these holidays. Since I was a bit busy with my college work, to finish my cooking quick  I made lot of microwave cooking these days. I was watching some of the YouTube cooking videos today, and observed that most of them involve microwaving. One comment under the more info section in the YouTube video made me to think about microwaving the food. It said that "R u teaching how to cook or how to suicide? your cooking involves lot of microwaving!!!"

I was really surprised to see that comment, because I use lot of microwave to defrost or boil my vegetables. I did some research on it and I found this wonderful site that may be useful for you too!!! Click here to go to that site. This site also shows the reference articles that have been published, i.e., it gives the scientifically proven evidence for what ever the content is mentioned on it!!!

Here are some of the key points that I learned from that site

1. Heating prepared meats in a microwave sufficiently for human consumption created:
* d-Nitrosodiethanolamine (a well-known cancer-causing agent)
* Destabilization of active protein biomolecular compounds
* Creation of a binding effect to radioactivity in the atmosphere
* Creation of cancer-causing agents within protein-hydrosylate compounds in milk and cereal grains;

2. Microwave emissions also caused alteration in the catabolic (breakdown) behavior of glucoside - and galactoside - elements within frozen fruits when thawed in this way;

3. Microwaves altered catabolic behavior of plant-alkaloids when raw, cooked or frozen vegetables were exposed for even very short periods;

4. Cancer-causing free radicals were formed within certain trace-mineral molecular formations in plant substances, especially in raw root vegetables;

5. Ingestion of micro-waved foods caused a higher percentage of cancerous cells in blood;

6. Due to chemical alterations within food substances, malfunctions occurred in the lymphatic system, causing degeneration of the immune systems capacity to protect itself against cancerous growth;

7. The unstable catabolism of micro-waved foods altered their elemental food substances, leading to disorders in the digestive system;

8. Those ingesting micro-waved foods showed a statistically higher incidence of stomach and intestinal cancers, plus a general degeneration of peripheral cellular tissues with a gradual breakdown of digestive and excretory system function;

9. Microwave exposure caused significant decreases in the nutritional value of all foods studied, particularly:
* A decrease in the bioavailability of B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotrophics
* Destruction of the nutritional value of nucleoproteins in meats
* Lowering of the metabolic activity of alkaloids, glucosides, galactosides and nitrilosides (all basic plant substances in fruits and vegetables)
* Marked acceleration of structural disintegration in all foods.

Enjoy reading!!! Eat healthy, stay fit!!!!

Cheers,
DD

What is cholesterol?What are healthy cholesterol levels?

Cholesterol is a type of fatty substance, also known as a lipid which is a type of fat in blood. You get cholesterol from eating certain type of fatty foods.

Your body also makes cholesterol. In fact, cholesterol is a major component of cell membranes and is made by the cells of most organs and tissues in the body. Your body also uses cholesterol to make bile salts, which help aid in digestion.Smaller amounts of cholesterol are used to make harmones and vitamin D and other substances.

Cholesterol is carried in the blood by special substances called lipoproteins. Low density lipo protein, or LDL, is known as "BAD" choloesterol. High density lipoprotein or HDL is known as "GOOD" cholesterol. These two types lipids along with triglycerides, makeup the three main parts of your cholesterol.

The three main categories of fats(Lipids) are:
HDL, LDL and Triglycerides in our body.

What are healthy cholesterol levels?

To help yor risk from heart disease, eat healthy foods that are mentioned in the table, the tables shows the foods that we have to avoid and the foods we have to consume.
Hope this info is helpful to all of you, I got this info near the doctor whom I had seen recently, thought this info will be helpful to every one and thought of posting it. Eat healthy and Stay healthy!!!!!!

My gift from Foodie Blogroll

Today morning when I was cooking some one knocked my door. I opened the door, there was a mail man with a big box. I have no idea what was it, I was just surprised  (thought for a second that, it may be my hubby's surprise gift for me!!!!!!LOL just kidding). Eagerly opened the box then I remembered that it was the one I ordered with Cultures for health gift coupon. For more events and contest updates keep visiting and follow FOOD BLOG NEWS . I already told you all about my gift coupon. Here is the link where the winners are announced. You all can participate.

I just participated in the foodie blogroll contest giveaway , just commented about the home made yogurt later I was given a notice on the same day that I won the contest, after few days they sent me the gift card number through which I can shop online in cultures for health. I just like this vegetable slicer, was planning to buy this since long time, I'm happy with it. Looking very beautiful with fine quality. Thanx to foodie blogroll and cultures for health.

Friends small Note- Facebook group

I've noticed that many are using personal Facebook profile directly for blog postings. They post Blog posts directly on wall, even I did the same in the starting. The problem here is, the personal friends many not like these kind of updates from you,Starting they may appreciate your work but later they keep avoiding your posts. So, if you post your blog post you many not get that many likes/ comments.

So to clear all these head ache's I just created a Group "Bloggywood Foodies" on facebook and you can add/ send request by yourself to this group. You can post here, get likes and talk about food and stuff, thus you can avoid your personal friends from your foodie's.This is just a small help and requiest not more than that.

Love you all,
Cheers,
DD

Cooking Spinach/Cabbage and tomato together causes Kidney stones, Is that true?

There is a rumor in South Asia especially in India that cooking spinach and tomato together causes kidney stones.

Is this rumor true?, the answer to this question is partially YES. My mother suffered from kidney stones few years back. After the operation I asked the doctor about the diet that my mother should follow. The doctor advised to avoid food that is rich in calcium for example milk, eggs, leafy vegetables etc.,
but he did not advised to cut them off completely from a regular diet, he told to reduce the intake.

When I also asked about this rumor, the doctor replied, of-course that is not completely false because Both Spinach and Tomatoes have Oxalates. These substances when the balance of minerals in body is disturbed, tend to mix with calcium( spinach, mint and other greens are rich sources) and form kidney stones. This happens only in people whose body metabolism predisposes them to form stones. The best way to avoid stone formation is to stay well hydrated. Drink atleast 1.5 litres of water in a day.

Also when using tomatoes, it is good to de seed them and use. Other sources for oxalates are Coffee, tea, nuts like peanuts, chocolate etc...

About cabbage and kidney stones, it is not true. But it is true that goitrogens ( things that interfere with the goitre in the absorption of Iodine) in cabbage interferes with the production of thyroid hormone and hence people withHypothyroidism should take less amount of cabbage.
